‘Can’ means ‘the home of’ in Catalan, and ‘Zin’ means ‘beautiful’ in Moroccan Arabic (Darija). Our belief is that for a home to be Zin, above all, it must be sustainable.
Can Zin sits at the crossroad where the Japanese wabi-sabi idea of beauty in imperfection and the Danish hygge concept of warm and cozy meet the Mediterranean mediterraneamente lifestyle of slowing things down to enjoy the moment.
By purchasing a mendil you are contributing to breathing life back into an ancient skill. And you can feel good about giving old thread a new life.
Can Zin also aims to preserve the art of mendil weaving, an art that is dying out with less interest in learning the trade from younger generations and through the industrial production of fabrics in general. We works with local artisans who weave thread from unwoven sweaters and clothing on looms (mramma) to make each piece by hand, contributing directly to their communities, both financially and culturally.
